Who doesn't love a good deal? - Free/Discount Movies

(Disclosure:  I am not compensated in anyway by the websites or products I recommend.  They get free advertisement for having a good product that I personally endorse.)

I thought I would switch it up today and blog about my other passion....finding a good deal.  I love a good deal.   One of many things I save money on is movies.

Free Movies - there are free advanced screenings in most cities in the U.S.   You can go to advancescreenings.com and sign up to receive emails when a new screening has been posted in your area.  Now, you have to get tickets once the screenings have been posted quickly because they go fast.  Then you must show up an hour prior to screening usually to get in.   It is first come, first serve and just because you get a ticket doesn't mean you are guaranteed a seat.   Most times you have to sign up for the waiting list but don't worry, a lot of times you will still get a ticket but sometimes on the day of the screening.  Sometimes they take your cell phones so you may want to leave your's in the car.   The nice thing about these screenings is that they usually don't include previews.   They would like you to provide comments when you leave about your opinion of the film but this is not required.   These usually occur during the week so sometimes they aren't convenient.

If you are an AMC stubs card holder, you will also receive notices for screenings for only their stubs members.

Other sites you can sign up for screenings are the following - sometimes you will get emails from these sites before you get a notice from the advance screenings site so you have a better chance of getting a ticket:

https://www.lionsgatescreenings.com/main/account_create
https://www.universalpictures.com
gofobo.com
http://hotchka.com/movie-passes/

So go out an enjoy you some free flicks and maybe you will see me there!

Another way I save money on movies is to buy discount passes on eBay in blocks of 10 or more.  I try to get them for $7.50 or $8 a piece.   I do have to pay a premium charge of $1.50 charge per ticket for my theater because it has recliner seats but it still saves me around $3.50 a ticket.  You can still get regal reward points with these so I usually get a free ticket about every 3rd movie I think.

Bummed about the lack of good movies these days?   Check out this link for great movies coming soon:  http://www.regmovies.com/Movies/faithfilms

See you at the movies!

Paleo - My Story

(Disclosure:  I am not compensated in anyway by the websites or products I recommend.  They get free advertisement for having a good product that I personally endorse.)

I first heard about natural solutions to thyroid issues on a local television show.   I was wondering if it could fix my thyroid issue so I could avoid being on medication for the rest of my life.   My PCP just put me on the medication and when I asked what was wrong with my thyroid her answer was, "they just stop working sometimes".   Well I thought that was a crappy answer and searched for a better one.   I attended a free seminar by this functional medicine practitioner on how functional medicine works and decided to give it a try.

The approach is basically finding out what foods your body doesn't like and the elimination of these foods allows your body to heal itself.   Through several tests, I found I had intolerances for eggs, dairy and gluten.   The diet is basically the Paleo - Auto Immune Protocol Diet.   I did a intestinal cleanse, liver cleanse, probiotic round and started taking several supplements.   The first six weeks I eliminated caffeine, nuts, seeds, nightshades, dairy, eggs, mushrooms, soy, all sugars and all grains.   After 6 weeks I was able to start adding some foods back:  caffeine, nuts, seeds, nightshades and mushrooms.   There are several really good websites out there that really go into the how and why paleo works and they do vary a bit but these are some of the ones I frequent.

thepaleomom.com and predominantlypaleo.com

I would suggest you review some of their posts and their testimonies.   There are so many out there about others who have used the paleo lifestyle to current their illnesses such as type 2 diabetes, graves disease, Hashimoto, thyroid, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, depression, ms, and the list goes on and on.  All I can say is wow.

I am happy to report after 12 weeks on this program, my TSH went from 11.53 to 3.78 and triglycerides went from 156 to 105.   There were other improvements as well and overall my blood work improved.

If you are interested in doing some testing on your own - this site offers some lower priced options:  ovitaminpro.com.   The people there are really helpful and much less expensive then the route I took. I believe they offer consulting to guide you through the process.   I know the paleo mom does as well but I don't know much about the costs.

I know Paleo is a pretty tough lifestyle and that there are a lot of people that just can't give up eating things they love but with some creativity which I will share in later posts you really don't have to.   It really angers me that medical doctors don't at least share this information with their patients who come in with these illnesses and give them the option to try without automatically putting them on medication that just masks the real issue - the food they are consuming.   These medications over time destroy the body.   Our society is just going to continue to get sicker and sicker!   Part of me thinks it is a conspiracy to reduce the population.  I also believe the some of the cancer we see is also related to either the medication and/or these food intolerances.   I also think they with all this GMO stuff they have damaged our food supply.

Ok, I will get off my soapbox now.   Just saying I am much happier, healthier and wiser now.  If you have questions, leave me a comment.

Oil Pulling

Oil Pulling may be new to some of you but I thought I would share my experience with it and how I do it.

First of all, what is oil pulling?  Think of opposites attract and magnetic properties.   It is the process of swishing coconut, sunflower or sesame oil around in your mouth to remove toxins and bad bacteria from your mouth and body.   I like to think of it like removing greasy stains from your clothing.  You add oil to recreate the grease and that helps remove the stain.   Apparently toxins, bad bacteria and plaque are attracted to the oil and so it acts like a magnet to remove them.

You can find out all the benefits at oilpulling.com.

How I pull:   I put 7 oz. of coconut oil into the microwave for 30 seconds to liquify.   Then I add 1/2 tsp of peppermint oil to it and stir.   I pour the melted oil into a star shaped ice tray and freeze for 30-60 minutes.   I then remove the solidified stars and store them in a pretty jar with a lid in my bathroom for daily use.   I put 1 star in my mouth before bath and switch while I bath.   When I get out about 20 minutes later, I spit it out into a little plastic solo cup (available at the Dollar Tree).   After it solidifies again, I through the cup away.   This way my pipes don't get clogged.

My experience is that my teeth stay white and plaque between my teeth is removed.  In addition, my husband and daughter have been able to avoid painful mouth sores.   I also believe that it helps remove inflammation in my elbow.

I highly recommend doing this for just the simple benefits of whitening your teeth safely.   It obviously does so much more.

If you pull, please share your experience.
